Suck it and See!
MEMO — designed by Ron Arad and Inflate Design Studio.
Inflate reverses the direction of airflow, revisiting Ron Arad’s 1980s transformer deflatable chair. MEMO transforms itself from a soft bean bag into a hard seat, memorising the sitter’s imprint.
Not only can this process be controlled by sucking the air out, letting it in, or even inflating the MEMO, but the firmness can also be adjusted to suit individual comfort. Each MEMO can be sculpted into different shapes for various seating needs.
Sucking the air out can even make cleaning easier. The MEMO floats beautifully and supports the sitter on water.
The first UK showing of the MEMO was at 100% Design, London in September 1999, where it received the Runner-Up Prize in the 100% Design / Blueprint Award.
